Worth a visit in Bergamo

Bergamo is a stunning City split on two levels 'Bergamo Alta' and 'Bassa' and can been seen as you come to land at Bergamo Orio airport.
Alta is a stereo typical ancient Italian mountain top Town that can be reached by the Funicular (mountain side railway) foot or bus, and is steeped in history.
You will not believe the view when you reach the top, but it's certainly worth a couple of hours of your time and take some pic's! In Alta, there is bars, restaurants, clothes stores, gelateria's and even a good old fashioned Irish pub (as always).
Bassa is a lot more modern in style, but still has many beautiful businesses that lead you from the station up to the main pedestrian route, and then onto the steep cobbled streets of Alta.
It's worth checking out a few places along the way.
Near to the station is the famous 'Grom' gelateria  just a few hundred metres away from the bus station on Viale Papa Giovanni XXIII, the disputed number one ice cream chain is all over Milan, and now Bergamo.
For a good old fashioned English style pub is 'The Ritual' located on Via San Francesco, more or less on the opposite side of the 'Viale Papa Gio' to 'Grom'.  The pub does Guinness, a few Chiarra beers (clear) and food in all shapes and sizes. If your missing the UK, certainly worth a bash.
If your missing some other home comforts from the UK, 'Sweet Irene' a very cute cafe that sells some traditional English desserts, pies, teas and scones. This a really cute place to visit and located on the cobbled streets leading upto 'Bergamo Alta'.

Visiting Lombardy

Lombardy is a beautiful region of Italy which is easily reached by plane, trains or automobiles.
The capital of the Lombardy is Milan, attracting millions of visitors for it's shopping, fashion shows, design exabitions, all of which making it perfect for a great weekend break.
One thing a lot of people don't realise about Milan is it's proximity to the lakes which are overshadowed by the stunning Alps backdrop and can be seen from all over the city of Milan on clear days, (certainly worth a visit on a nice day).

Lombardy has some great places to visit in the region, with the likes of Como town not far away, Monza, Pavia, Varese, Brescia, Piacenza, Lecco and last but certainly not least Bergamo!
All of these places are easily connected to Milan, and can be accessed by train in an hour. My personal fave's are Bergamo, Monza and Lecco but Varese is definatly not far behind.

Milan's airports and travel connections

Milano or Milan is like most major bustling cities, with a good affordable network of trains, airports, trams, buses and the metro.
When you first arrive into Milan you'll either arrive at one of the three airports. Malpensa is the main International Airport located around one hour away from the centre of Milan to the North West of the City, and actually very close to the border of Piedmont. Malpensa is the main hub for long haul flights, usually from the Americas, Far East and Middle East.
Bergamo is the second busiest of the airports in the region and is around fifty minutes outside of Milan to the North East of the City.
Bergamo Orio Airport is well positioned for travelling to the lakes, Brescia and Verona. Recently Bergamo Airport has been undergoing lots of refurbishment, adding new restaurants, bars and square meters in the process. The airport mainly deals with short haul flights to the rest of Europe and other parts of Italy, with flights running frequently with carriers such as Ryanair and Easyjet.
Linate airport is perfectly located for a short taxi or bus journey into the centre of the City. Based only fifteen to twenty minutes to the south east of the City of Milan, Linate is usually used by the business community to connect quickly to the financial quarters of  Milan.
Carriers such as British Airways, Alitalia, BMI and some Easyjet flights, frequent the airport.
